This qualification reflects the role of a skilled operator working with civil construction plant, who applies a broad range of skills in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. The individual may provide theoretical advice and support a team.

Packaging Rules:
The following provides the packaging rules for this qualification, followed by the list of relevant units of competency.
Total number of units = 19
14 core units plus
5 elective units, of which:
- at least one (1) must be chosen from Group A
- at least two (2) must be chosen from Group B
- no more than two (2) may be chosen from Group C
- no more than one (1) may be chosen from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.
OR
- at least two (2) must be chosen from Group A
- a further three (3) may be chosen from Group A, B, or C
- no more than one (1) may be chosen from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.
All elective units selected from outside this qualification must reflect current occupational and learning outcomes of this AQF qualification level.
There are both licensed and non-licensed units of competency relating to high risk work in the RII Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package. To be appointed under any statutory requirements in related roles, units of competency should be selected to meet the state/territory licensing requirements.
There are prerequisites to imported units listed in this qualification. Where a unit is imported as an elective care must be taken to ensure that all prerequisites specified are complied with.

The qualification applies to specialist occupations in Bituminous Surfacing Bridge Construction and Maintenance, Pipe Laying, Road Construction and Maintenance, Road Marking, Tunnel Construction, Timber Bridge Construction and Maintenance and Civil Construction general occupations. The individual may provide theoretical advice and support a team.

The following table provides the packaging rules for this qualification, followed by the list of relevant units of competency.
The qualification has core and elective units of competency requirements that cover the general and specialist skills for eight (8) specialist and one (1) general civil construction stream.

The core units and requirements of one (1) stream must be met for award of this qualification.
The following units of competency are required:
Stream 1 – Bituminous Surfacing
Successful completion of twenty five (25) units of competency made up of:
seven (7) core units, plus seven (7) Group A units plus
eleven (11) elective units of which:
– at least six (6) must come from the Group B electives listed below including at least three (3) bituminous surfacing units at AQF 3 level (CBS3) OR at least two (2) bituminous surfacing units at AQF 3 level (CBS3) and one (1) at AQF 4 level (CBS4)
– up to five (5) units may come from AQF 2, 3 or 4 level from this, or any other Training Package
– up to three (3) units of competency may come from an AQF 2, 3 or 4 level accredited course
Stream 2 – Bridge Construction and Maintenance
Successful completion of twenty five (25) units of competency made up of:
seven (7) core units, plus eight (8) Group C units plus
ten (10) elective units of which:
– at least five (5) must come from the Group D electives listed below including at least two (2) bridge maintenance units at AQF 3 level (CBM3)
– up to five (5) units may come from AQF 2, 3 or 4 level from this, or any other Training Package
– up to three (3) units of competency may come from an AQF 2, 3 or 4 level accredited course
Stream 3 – Pipe Laying
Successful completion of twenty five (25) units of competency made up of:
seven (7) core units, plus ten (10) Group E units plus
eight (8) elective units of which:
– at least three (3) must come from the Group F electives listed below of which at least one (1) marked *
– at least four (4) of the units must be at AQF 3 level
– up to five (5) units may come from AQF 2, 3 or 4 level from this, or any other Training Package
– up to three (3) units of competency may come from an AQF 2, 3 or 4 level accredited course
Stream 4 – Road Construction and Maintenance
Successful completion of twenty five (25) units of competency made up of:
seven (7) core units, plus nine (9) Group G units plus
nine (9) elective units of which:
– at least four (4) must be road construction (CRC) units from the Group H electives listed below including at least two (2) at AQF 3 level – at least four (4) of the total elective units must be at AQF 3 level
– up to five (5) unit may come from AQF 2, 3 or 4 level from this, or any other Training Package
– up to three (3) units of competency may come from an AQF 2, 3 or 4 level accredited course
Stream 5 – Road Marking
Successful completion of twenty two (22) units of competency made up of:
seven (7) core units, plus four (4) Group I units plus
eleven (11) elective units of which:
– at least seven (7) must come from the Group J electives listed below including a minimum of five (5) road marking (CRM) units of which one (1) must be at AQF 3 level
– up to four (4) units may come from AQF 2, 3 or 4 level from this, or any other Training Package
– up to two (2) units of competency may come from an AQF 2, 3 or 4 level accredited course
Stream 6 – Tunnel Construction
Successful completion of twenty five (25) units of competency made up of:
seven (7) core units, plus eight (8) Group K units plus
ten (10) elective units of which:
– at least five (5) must come from the Group L electives listed below including a minimum of three (3) units at AQF 3 level, of which at least two (2) must be tunnel construction (CTC) units
– up to five (5) units may come from AQF 2, 3 or 4 level from this, or any other Training Package – up to three (3) units of competency may come from an AQF 2, 3 or 4 level accredited course
Stream 7 – Timber Bridge Construction and Maintenance
Successful completion of twenty eight (28) units of competency made up of:
seven (7) core units, plus twelve (12) Group M units plus nine (9) elective units of which:
– at least five (5) must come from the Group N electives listed below including a minimum of two (2) units at AQF 3 level
– up to four (4) units may come from AQF 2, 3 or 4 level from this, or any other Training Package
– up to three (3) units of competency may come from an AQF 2, 3 or 4 level accredited course
Stream 8 – Traffic Management
Successful completion of twenty three (23) units of competency made up of:
Seven (7) core units, plus sixteen (16) elective units of which:
– at least eight (8) must come from the Group V
– at least two (2) must come from Group W, with at least three (3) must be chosen from Group X,
– no more than three (3) may be chosen from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.
Stream 9 – Civil Construction General
Successful completion of twenty five (25) units of competency made up of:
seven (7) core units, plus eighteen (18) elective units of which:
– at least thirteen (13) must come from the Group O electives or the Group P high risk work electives list below including at least ten (10) at AQF 3 level
– up to five (5) units may come from AQF 2, 3 or 4 level from this, or any other Training Package
– up to three (3) units of competency may come from an AQF 2, 3 or 4 level accredited course
Units of competency chosen must
– be relevant to the competency requirements for the job function
– reflect the competency profile for the occupation at the enterprise level
– in the case of accredited course units of competency, not duplicate in part or in whole any unit from a Training Package.
There are both licensed and non-licensed units of competency relating to high risk work in the RII09 Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package. To be appointed under any statutory requirements in related roles, units of competency should be demonstrated to meet the state/territory licensing requirements. State/territory licensing requirements need to be confirmed by the Registered Training Organisation delivering and/or assessing the competency.
Care must be taken to ensure that all prerequisites specified within imported units, or units chosen as electives, are complied with.

Qualification Description:
This qualification reflects the role of specialist safety compliance personnel perform within the workplace. They perform tasks involving a broad range of varied activities most of which are complex and non-routine. They are responsible for developing and ensuring safe work procedures and practices are followed in the workplace. And to monitor and report on safety performance to management. A person with this qualification may be required to develop site work instructions and practices to ensure the quantity and quality of their outputs and contribute to the development of safety solutions for non-routine problems.
Importantly, existing workers who have experience in the industry but do not have recognised qualifications can also utilise this course as means of getting their current skills and competencies recognised through a combined Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and gap training process.
Delivery:
The training can be delivered entirely on site at the employers premises and the structure is negotiated to meet the operational requirements of the business. This will include scheduled face to face visits by the Current Training mentor who will also provide ongoing support and mentoring via email, telephone or visits for the duration of the program. All resources including manuals, assessment and reference materials will be provided.
Assessment:
A Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process will be undertaken prior to the commencement of the training to identify the skills and knowledge the person has acquired through work experience, formal and informal training and / or general life experience. Once the trainer confirms the evidence of current competency a training plan can be negotiated.
Ongoing assessments will be conducted throughout the program and may include completion of activity workbooks, actual or simulated workplace activities, observation of skills and knowledge applied within the workplace, written tests, research projects and informal / formal questioning.
Course Details:
Successful completion of ten (10) units of competency made up of:
Five (5) core units, and Five (5) elective units of which: – at least three (3) must be chosen from A – at least two (2) may be chosen from group, A/B or any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course at the same qualification level. if not listed below, 1 elective unit may be selected from a Certificate III or Diploma from any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course
Pathways from the qualification:
After achieving the BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety candidates may undertake further high level tertiary studies in the Business, Construction or Management areas.

The Certificate IV in Civil Construction Supervision is designed for those working in independent and self-managing roles related to civil construction. These may include; site foreman or supervisors, team leaders and contract administrators.
The Certificate IV in Civil Construction Supervision is a nationally recognised, competency based qualification. The Certificate IV consists of twelve units of competency based on the Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package (RII).
This qualification combines best practice theory with practical examples of workplace application.
Current Training’s team of experienced facilitators have extensive on-the-job experience across a broad range of industries. They offer real world examples to demonstrate how the practical application of theory can deliver outstanding outcomes.
This qualification is delivered flexibly – offering learning with minimal impact on your valuable time. Learning pathways available for completing this qualification include traditional learning pathway, recognition of prior learning (RPL)/recognition of current competence (RCC) pathway, a coached/ RPL pathway and a distance learning pathway.
Learning Outcomes:
This qualification is designed to meet the needs of civil construction supervisors, including selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality, and liaising with the client.
Structure:
Current Training delivers training in a flexible manner, enabling participants to apply the skills and knowledge gained immediately after completing each unit in this program.
The Certificate IV in Civil Construction Supervision involves successful completion of twelve of the following units consisting of five core units and seven elective units.
- at least two (2) must be chosen from the Group A electives
- at least two (2) must be chosen from the Group B electives
- up to two (2) units may come from AQF level III, IV or Diploma in this, or any other, Training Package or accredited course.
Program Duration:
It is expected that participants in this program will complete their qualification within a twelve month period.
Please discuss course delivery options with a Current Training team member. Course delivery is mainly based on self-paced study, however not all units are available via this route. Face to face delivery is available within organisations for groups of 8 or more.
Participant Profile:
Certificate IV in Civil Construction Supervision is designed for those people who are working in independent and self-managing roles in civil construction. Roles may include:

Program Pre-requisites:
There are no pre-requisites for this program, however civil construction work experience is desirable.
Recognition of Prior Learning:
Assessment by portfolio and interview is available to those with workplace experience in civil construction roles. This approach requires the participant to furnish substantial evidence of administration and coordination experience along with a signed reference from a team leader or manager.
